Lightning kills 2 farm labourers in Naogaon

NAOGAON, May 21: Two farm labourers, Akkas Fakir (60) and Tareq Rahman (22), have been killed by a lightning strike while cutting paddy in a field in Raninagar, Naogaon.
The tragic incident occurred around 11:30 am on Thursday in the Jathail field area of Parail Union in the upazila.
The deceased, Akkas Fakir, was the son of late Asad Fakir of Parail Village in the upazila, and Tareq Rahman was the son of Aminur Rahman of the same village.
Local sources said that on Thursday morning, Akkas Fakir, Tareq Rahman, and several other labourers were busy cutting paddy in Jathail field. Suddenly, a thunderstorm with lightning began, and Akkas and Tareq were seriously injured at the scene. Later, other labourers saw their lifeless bodies and informed family members.
Zahidur Rahman Zahid, Chairman of Parail Union Council, said they had gone to cut paddy in the field in the morning. Both died at the scene due to the lightning strike during the rain. The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area.
