RANINAGAR , NAOGAON, May 24:  Sheikh Rezaul Islam, Member of Parliament for Naogaon-6 (Atrai-Raninagar), has said it will not be possible to eradicate drugs unless a strong social resistance is built against the menace.

He said the rising number of drug dealers and users poses a serious threat to society, warning that no one would remain safe from its impact unless collective action is taken.

"Drugs are at the root of many crimes. From our respective positions, we must become more aware and work actively against this dangerous social disease," he said while addressing the monthly law and order meeting organised by the upazila administration at the local hallroom in Raninagar on Saturday afternoon.

The meeting was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rakibul Hasan.

The lawmaker said public cooperation with the administration and police was crucial to maintaining social stability and curbing crimes such as rape, theft and robbery.

Calling for united efforts to ensure peace, development and a better future for the people of Raninagar and Atrai, he said the country was currently facing significant challenges inherited from the previous government.
Referring to the recent national election, he said the people had entrusted the current government with the responsibility of running the state through a democratic process.

"Within just three months of assuming office, it has become evident that the previous fascist regime had severely damaged state institutions. We inherited a fragile economy, and strengthening it will require responsibility and dedication from all sectors," he said.

He also alleged that a political party was attempting to spread misinformation despite the government working in line with the July Charter.

Expressing concern over the recent rise in theft, snatching, drug-related activities and other crimes in Raninagar, he directed authorities to intensify mobile court drives and instructed police to conduct stricter operations.

Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nabila Yasmin, Officer-in-Charge Zakaria Mondal, Kashimpur Union Parishad Chairman Moklesur Rahman Babu, Ekdala Union Chairman Engineer Shahjahan Ali, Raninagar upazila BNP General Secretary Mosaraf Hossain, Organising Secretary Mejba-ul Haque Liton, and Raninagar Press Club President Harunur Rashid also spoke at the meeting.

The MP later distributed financial assistance to three families affected by recent lightning strikes and handed out prizes at the closing ceremony of the land fair.
