KISHOREGANJ, June 1: The "Sufia-Mannan Youth Awakening Football Tournament (Season-2)" has begun in Kishoreganj with the aim of building a sports-oriented, healthy and humane society by keeping young people away from drugs, terrorism and criminal activities.
The tournament was inaugurated at a grand ceremony on Sunday afternoon at the Kamaliarchar High School grounds in Binnati Union of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila.
Kishoreganj-1 (Sadar-Hosenpur) MP Md. Mazharul Islam attended the event as the chief guest, while former chairman and prominent social worker Lutful Bari Khokon inaugurated the tournament.
The event was supported by the Sufia-Mannan Foundation and was presided over by Mubarak Hossain Sumon, founder and president of the Sufia-Mannan Public Library. A notable feature of the event was the participation of leaders from various political and social organizations, regardless of party affiliation.
Special guests included former district BNP Deputy Campaign Secretary Md. Tajul Islam Chapal, District Jubo Dal Member Secretary Shahidullah Kaiser Shahid, District Chhatra Dal President Rafiul Islam Nowshad, District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Shariful Islam Nishad, Sadar Upazila BNP Vice-President Alhaj Lutful Haque Titu, former District Chhatra Dal Vice-President Jakarul Islam Bappi, Sadar Upazila Chhatra Dal Joint Convener Abu Sayeed Saddam, and former District Chhatra Dal Co-Organizing Secretary Anik Hasan Jannatul.
In the opening match, Kamaliarchar Tarun Sangha XI faced Kamaliarchar Duronto Sporting Club XI.
After the match, chief guest MP Md. Mazharul Islam distributed prizes among players of both the winning and participating teams.
The organizers said the tournament was organized as part of the regular social activities of the Sufia-Mannan Foundation. They expressed hope that such events would help increase young people's interest in sports and prevent social degradation.
Five teams are participating in this year's tournament: Kaliarchar Jubo Sporting Club, Kaliarchar Adarsh Sangha, Madarjihar Unique Sporting Club, Bandipur Yuvraj Sporting Club, and Burirchar Jubo Unnayan Sporting Club.
Local dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, players from various teams and organizers attended the opening ceremony.
