27 JSD leaders sent to jail as court rejects bail pleas

A Dhaka court on Monday (September 28) rejected the bail applications of 27 leaders and activists of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) who were arrested under Section 54 following a police raid on their central office.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Najmin Akter passed the order after a hearing, observing that the allegations require further investigation.

Sub-Inspector Masum Mia of the DMP Prosecution Division confirmed the court's decision to deny bail.

Police arrested the 27 individuals on Saturday during a drive at the JSD central headquarters in Gulistan, initially detaining around several hundred people before releasing 249 following verification.

According to police court filings, the detainees allegedly chanted "Joy Bangla" slogans inside the office and created an unstable situation, failing to provide satisfactory explanations for their presence.

Lawenforcement officials stated that the raid was conducted following intelligence reports that leaders of the banned Awami League and JSD had gathered at the venue to plan subversive activities.

Contrasting police claims, JSD Office Secretary Sajjad Hossain asserted that the party was holding an authorized representative meeting when BNP and Jubo Dal activists attacked the venue, after which police detained the victimized party members.
