KOYRA, KHULNA, June 1: Out of 142 government primary schools in Koyra Upazila of Khulna, 59 schools have a head teacher, but 83 schools do not have a head teacher. In addition, 21 assistant teacher posts are vacant. Due to this, the teaching of students is being disrupted.
According to sources, the assistant teachers of all those schools have to perform the duties of the acting head teacher, teach, and also do official work. As a result, the teaching of young students is being disrupted. This situation has been created due to promotion, retirement and death of head teachers over a long period.
In addition, teachers of 19 newly nationalised schools are filing cases to get the post of head teacher. Due to the cases, it is not possible to appoint or post head teachers in all those schools.
According to the Upazila Education Office, out of 142 government primary schools in Koyra Upazila, 83 schools do not have a head teacher. There are 732 approved assistant teacher posts; 711 are working, and 21 are vacant. In these schools, if there is no assistant teacher, the head teacher has to take classes along with his official work. Again, if there is no head teacher, the assistant teacher has to perform the duties of the head teacher and do official work. Due to this, taking classes and teaching is being disrupted.
Shahid Hasan, the acting head teacher of Batulbazar Government Primary School in Uttar Bedkashi Union, said that out of the four teachers in his school, one teacher is on deputation.
Currently, it has become very difficult to teach more than 200 students and do official work with three teachers. Due to the shortage of teachers, it is difficult to run the school.
Upazila Education Officer Tapan Kumar Karmakar said that the list of teachers eligible for promotion to vacant posts has been sent to the District Education Office. If the vacant posts are appointed, the crisis will also end.
