The appointment of Dhaka University (DU) MPhil researcher Md Shayid Bin Anwar Sajib as political secretary to Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has generated widespread appreciation within BNP’s student wing, Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

Leaders and activists of JCD, particularly from Jamalpur, welcomed the move and praised State Minister Millat for what they described as a “visionary talent-hunt approach” aimed at promoting educated and competent young leaders into important political roles.

According to an official letter issued on Thursday, the appointment took effect immediately. In his new role, Sajib will coordinate development activities in the Jamalpur-1 constituency and maintain communication with relevant individuals and institutions on behalf of the state minister.

The appointment will remain effective until further notice.

Sajib, a native of Kalikpur village in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur, is currently pursuing MPhil research at Dhaka University while also practising law.

He has long been active in student politics. In the 2019 DUCSU election, Sajib secured the second-highest number of votes among member candidates from the JCD panel.

He also previously served as convener of JCD’s Dewanganj upazila unit.

The appointment sparked enthusiastic reactions among JCD leaders and DU students.

Former JCD central vice-president Shazid Hassan Babu described Sajib as a leader who has “consistently demonstrated integrity, merit, and commitment.” He expressed confidence that Sajib would contribute meaningfully to both the party and the nation under the guidance of State Minister Millat.

Central JCD Vice-President Shajahan Shawon also welcomed the initiative, saying that under the leadership of M Rashiduzzaman Millat and with the advice of Barrister Shahadat Bin Zaman Shovon, positive political change is expected.

He added that Sajib’s leadership could help build a progressive Dewanganj-Bakshiganj region.

Safwan Hasan Tamim, assistant legal secretary of DU JCD, said the appointment reflected a positive shift in political culture.

“Recognising skilled and talented young individuals sends a strong message about a new and constructive trend in politics,” he said.

Dhaka University student Hossain Md Sanid called the appointment “a strong commitment to recognising merit and empowering capable youth in public service,” adding that Sajib’s organisational abilities make him well-suited for the role.

Another DU student, Fahad Al Mahmud, said the decision proved that “merit has no substitute,” while congratulating both State Minister Millat and Sajib.

State Minister Millat expressed hope that Sajib would carry out his responsibilities with sincerity and dedication.

Grassroots leaders in Jamalpur-1 also believe the appointment will strengthen organisational activities and improve coordination with the state minister’s office.
