CHATTOGRAM, June 05: The 4th Professor Dr Khabir Uddin Ahmed National Moot Court Competition 2026 began on Friday at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chittagong, bringing together law students from universities across the country to compete on issues related to International Humanitarian Law.
The two-day competition is being organised by the Society for Critical Legal Studies (SCLS) and will conclude on June 6.
This year, 63 teams from 42 universities submitted written memorials for the competition. Participating institutions included the University of Dhaka, University of Chittagong, University of Rajshahi, North South University, University of Barishal and Jahangirnagar University, among others.
Following a competitive evaluation process, 16 teams were selected for the oral rounds. The competition is being conducted in four stages - Preliminary Round, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final.
The Preliminary Round was held on the opening day, during which participating teams presented their oral arguments before the judges. Eight teams will advance to the next stage of the competition.
The Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final rounds are scheduled to be held on Saturday, followed by the prize-giving ceremony.
Honourable Justice Syed Mohammed Tazrul Hossain of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh will attend the ceremony as the chief guest, while Honourable Justice Rezaul Karim of the High Court Division will be present as the guest of honour.
Among the distinguished guests are Prof. Dr Mohammad Al-Forkan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chittagong; Prof. Dr Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic); Prof. Dr Md Kamal Uddin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration); Additional Attorney General Mohammad Arshadur Rouf; and Prof. Dr Md Jafar Ullah Talukdar, Dean of the Faculty of Law.
Special guests include A.E.M. Ismail Hossain, Director (Administration) of the Judicial Administration and Training Institute and District and Sessions Judge; Mohammed Belayat Hossain, Barrister-at-Law and Senior Advocate of the Appellate Division; Shah Muhammad Ezaz Rahman, Barrister-at-Law and Senior Advocate of the Appellate Division; and A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Advocate of the Appellate Division and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Eastern University.
