KAPTAI, RANGAMATI, June 8: A gender awareness workshop and information-sharing meeting for journalists from print and electronic media was held in Kaptai of Rangamati on Sunday.
The programme was organised by the Comprehensive Community Health Programme of local development organisation Hill Flower at the Karnaphuli Restaurant in Kaptai.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Prabir Khyang, Director of Chandraghona Christian Hospital, highlighted the role of the programme in expanding healthcare services in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
He said the initiative has been helping deliver essential healthcare services to marginalised communities, including indigenous people living in remote regions.
"The programme is ensuring that people in underserved areas receive access to healthcare services, which is benefiting local communities and improving health outcomes," he said.
The workshop was presided over by Jennifer Ajanta Tanchangya, Assistant Programme Manager of Hill Flower.
Bijoy Marma, Comprehensive Programme Manager of Chandraghona Christian Hospital, delivered the welcome address, while Kaptai Upazila Social Services Officer Nazmul Hasan attended the event as a special guest.
Among others, Kaptai Press Club President Kabir Hossain, Rajsthali Press Club President Azgar Ali Khan, Kaptai Press Club Joint Secretary Alamgir Kabir, former general secretary of Rangunia Press Club Masud Nasir, Rangunia Press Club Vice-President Abbas Uddin Aftab, journalist Jaglul Huda, Bilai Chhari Press Club member Sujan Kanti Tanchangya, and field-level workers Kromraching Marma and Poppy Tanchangya spoke at the programme.
Participants discussed various gender-related issues and the importance of responsible media coverage in promoting gender equality and social inclusion.
Journalists attending the workshop also offered recommendations on how Hill Flower could further strengthen and expand its healthcare activities in the region.
At the beginning of the programme, Sanjit Tanchangya, manager of finance and administration at Hill Flower, presented an overview of the project's activities and objectives.
