A fresh injection of Tk2,500 crore from Bangladesh Bank has given Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC another crucial lifeline as the country's largest private commercial bank continues to face heavy withdrawal pressure from depositors.

The central bank provided the additional support on Monday, only a day after extending the same amount, taking total emergency liquidity assistance to Tk50 billion within two days. The move highlights the regulator’s determination to keep the bank stable and ensure that customers can continue accessing their funds despite growing cash demands.

The support comes at a time when Islami Bank is dealing with unusually high withdrawals. Bank officials earlier estimated that net cash outflows reached around Tk12 billion a day in recent days, creating significant pressure on daily operations. The shortage affected some large digital transactions and caused temporary disruptions to services on the bank’s mobile banking platform, CellFin.

Bangladesh Bank has responded with more than liquidity support. Following major governance changes, the regulator dissolved the previous board, cancelled several independent director appointments, and installed new leadership. These steps reflect a clear effort by the regulator to restore order and confidence at a bank that plays a vital role in the country's financial system.
