State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has stressed the need to teach children through enjoyable activities, instead of relying on rote learning in primary education.
While speaking at a workshop as a special guest on Tuesday, Bobby Hajjaj said learning through play could play an effective role in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills among children.
''The National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE) and its partner organisations had conducted research and collected information on local games. A total of 412 games have been documented that can be played in schools. In addition, work has been carried out on how to standardise more than 700 locally popular games and incorporate them into school curricula.''
Highlighting the importance of enjoyable learning in primary education, the state minister said opportunities for learning through play must be created to ensure that children learn with enjoyment.
''Children cannot be taught effectively through memorisation alone. Teaching through sports and enjoyable activities would enhance their learning capacity and thinking skills.''
