AC Land, five others injured in dacoit attack

NARAYANGANJ, Jun 20: Six people, including an Assistant Commissioner (Land), were injured in an attack by an armed gang of dacoits in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj early Friday.

The injured include Sakib Hasan Khan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla, who was on leave at his village home in Dhondi area. The others are Mukul (38), Rajib (32), Rubel (36), Faruk (32) and Dalia (33), wife of Mukul. 

Police and local sources said the incident took place around 1:00am in the Dhondi and Rainadi-Atadi areas under Haizadi Union.

 The group of 10 to 12 armed assailants allegedly attacked the victims while they were sitting outside due to a power outage.

Witnesses said the attackers used sharp weapons, leaving six people seriously injured. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing screams, prompting the gang to flee.

The injured were first taken to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Local residents also alleged that around an hour after the attack, the same group raided a nearby house in the Rainadi-Atadi area.

 The dacoits reportedly held family members at gunpoint and looted Tk 270,000 in cash along with gold ornaments weighing around 14 bhori. Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sabjel Hossain confirmed the incidents and said police visited the scene after receiving information.
