BANDARBAN, June 22: A library named Shaheed Abu Sayeed Smriti Pathagar was inaugurated in Bandarban town on Monday morning to commemorate Shaheed Abu Sayeed and promote reading habits among the younger generation.

Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Prof Thanjama Lushai inaugurated the library by cutting a ribbon at Dhanesh Pakhi Chattar in the municipality area as the chief guest.

Bandarban Municipality Administrator SM Manjurul Haque, Hill District Council Member Md Nasir Uddin, Bandarban District President of the Anti-Corruption Committee Ang Cha Mong, and Coordinator of the July Student Movement Md Asif Iqbal, among others, were present.

Students involved in the anti-discrimination student movement and representatives of civil society also attended the programme.
After the inauguration, a discussion was held at the library conference room.

Speakers said the July student movement had played a significant role in shaping a “new Bangladesh” and called on all to be inspired by patriotism.

They said the establishment of a library in the name of Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the movement, would help expand knowledge among students in the hill district and encourage reading among people of all ages.

They also said the initiative would contribute to building a culture of reading and broaden access to books for children and young readers in the region.
