The government has appointed Ahsan Habib, Member (Tax Administration) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), as the new Chairman of the revenue authority, replacing Md. Abdur Rahman Khan.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification announcing the appointment on Monday.
A member of the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre, Habib graduated from the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka, securing first-class first position. He also topped his batch in the BCS examination.
During his career, he served as Commissioner of Tax Zone-15 and later as Director General of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), where he led several high-profile investigations into tax evasion and financial irregularities. He also played a key role in efforts to recover outstanding taxes from the online gambling platform UlkaGames.
Habib is currently serving as President of the BCS Taxation Association. His appointment comes as the government pursues broader reforms to strengthen revenue collection and improve tax administration.
