North Dhaka rickshaws won't be allowed in South: DSCC Administrator

Rickshaws registered in Dhaka North will not be allowed to operate in Dhaka South once a new regulatory framework for the vehicles comes into effect, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam on Wednesday.

He said both rickshaws and their drivers will be required to obtain licences under the proposed policy.

The DSCC administrator made the announcement while overseeing a joint cleanliness and eviction drive in the capital’s Science Lab area this morning.

Abdus Salam said once the rickshaw policy is finalised, rickshaws will be allowed to operate only on designated roads across the four zones of Dhaka South City Corporation and will not be permitted to operate beyond those areas.

He also said that shopping malls and commercial establishments will be required to keep the areas in front of their premises clean. ''Action will be taken against those who fail to comply.''
