State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said on Friday that the government will gradually reduce fuel prices whenever global market conditions allow.

He also said that the government significantly cut LPG cylinder prices in line with international market conditions.

Amit came up with the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with officials of district Palli Bidyut Samity and Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) at Jashore Circuit House.

“About 98 per cent of the country’s LPG is imported and depends on private sector. The Middle East crisis pushed up prices, increasing household expenses. As the global situation improves, we have adjusted prices and will continue to reduce fuel prices whenever possible," he said.

On complaints over inflated electricity bills and load shedding, Amit said complaint centres had been opened at every electricity office and officials had been instructed to resolve consumers’ grievances promptly.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashik Hasan, Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam and other local officials attended the programme.
