Police have filed a case against 15 named and 35-40 unnamed leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate bodies in Khulna on charges of conspiring against the government and carrying out anti-state activities.

Sub-Inspector Tapan Kumar Pal of Sadar Police Station filed the case on Thursday night, Inspector (Investigation) Md Mizanur Rahman said.

The accused include Khulna district Jubo League Office Secretary Asaduzzaman Khan Riaz and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League's Khulna city Joint General Secretary Tayeful Islam Taj.

The case alleges the accused gathered near Tare Pukur early Wednesday, hurled bricks, vandalised vehicles and chanted slogans in support of the banned BCL and Awami League in an attempt to topple the government, disrupt public order and sever road communication between Khulna and other districts.

Police said the accused fled before officers arrived and were later identified through CCTV footage and local intelligence.
