A father and his son were killed after a motorcycle collided with a truck in Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
A seven-year-old child travelling with them was critically injured and admitted to a local hospital.
The accident occurred at around 2:00pm in Monthana Bazar area of Borobil Union in the upazila.
The deceased are Nirmal Chandra Roy, 75, and his son, Prashanta Chandra Roy, 35, a village doctor from Paschim Mandrain village under Sadar Union of the upazila.
Police and locals said Nirmal Chandra Roy, his son Prashanta Chandra Roy, and his grandson Bandhan Chandra Roy were travelling by motorcycle to attend a programme at Boraibari Tulshihat.
When they reached near Monthana Jute Mill on the way, the motorcycle collided with a speeding truck. Prashanta died on the spot while Nirmal Chandra Roy was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Injured Bandhan Chandra Roy (7) is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the same hospital.
Gangachara Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Sabur said the truck driver fled the scene after leaving the vehicle behind. Police are trying to arrest him. The truck had been taken to the police station, and legal action will be taken in connection with the incident, the OC said.
