KNF member held with firearm

BANDARBAN, July 4: A suspected member of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) was detained with a firearm during a joint forces operation in a remote area of Thanchi upazila in Bandarban on Saturday.

The detainee was identified as Jouthan Bom, 52, son of Lalpian Bom of Sherkar Para village under Ward No. 9 of Sadar Union.

According to local sources and police, the joint forces had been conducting operations in the remote parts of Thanchi for the past three days. During Saturday's raid in Sherkar Para, they detained Jouthan Bom along with a firearm before handing him over to the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police Farhad Sardar confirmed the incident, saying the army detained a suspected KNF member with a firearm in the remote area of Thanchi and later handed him over to the police.

He said preparations were underway to file a case against the detainee under the Arms Act.
