Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated US President Donald J Trump and the American people on the occasion of the 250th Independence Day of the United States, reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.

In a letter issued on Saturday, the prime minister extended his "warmest felicitations" to President Trump and expressed confidence that the United States would achieve greater progress under his leadership.

"As the United States celebrates this glorious occasion, America 250 also inspires people around the world through the American dream, sacrifice, freedom, values, traditions and its
contributions to the global community," Tarique wrote.

He said Bangladesh regarded the United States as a valued friend and an important partner since its independence.

"Over the past five decades, our bilateral ties have evolved into a robust and multifaceted partnership encompassing trade and investment, education, defence, and extensive people-to-people connections," he said.

The prime minister noted that Bangladesh and the United States had entered "a new chapter" in their relationship, with significant progress made since the beginning of this year in trade, energy cooperation and investment.

He also expressed appreciation for the United States' continued support in addressing the Rohingya crisis.

"Rest assured that my government and I will continue to work with you and your administration to further strengthen and deepen our partnership in areas of shared interest," he wrote.

Tarique wished President Trump good health, continued success, and the people of the United States lasting peace, prosperity and happiness.
