Residents blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Dhamrai on Monday, demanding an adequate residential gas supply. The blockade in the Kalampur area was lifted around noon after the local administration assured them of steps to address the issue.
The protest caused heavy traffic congestion on both sides of the highway for several hours.
Residents alleged they have been suffering from an acute gas shortage for nearly two years despite having residential connections, forcing them to rely on LPG cylinders and other fuels while continuing to pay gas bills.
They also claimed inadequate pressure from the Kalampur District Regulating Station (DRS) and alleged that nearby industries were using booster pumps to draw excess gas. The allegations could not be independently verified.
The protesters demanded restoration of regular gas supply, waiver of bills for the period of inadequate service, and installation of gas meters for consumption-based billing. Traffic resumed after Dhamrai UNO Md Al Mamun assured them that the matter would be taken up with the gas authorities.
