The government has reconstituted a nine-member committee to improve the effectiveness of public procurement and economic affairs, appointing Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman as its chairman.
A Cabinet Division notification, issued on Sunday, said the committee has been tasked with reviewing the functioning of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase and submitting recommendations for reforms.
The committee will also review relevant provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2006 and the Public Procurement Rules, 2025, and recommend measures to make the procurement process more effective.
The committee includes ministers and senior officials from the power, commerce, public administration and local government ministries, along with the cabinet secretary, the finance secretary and the chief executive officer of the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority.
According to the notification, the committee will meet as required, may co-opt additional members if necessary, and will receive secretarial support from the Cabinet Division. The order takes immediate effect.
