A Dhaka court on Tuesday showed former Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Iqbal Bahar, former Dhaka-5 lawmaker Harunur Rashid Munna, and Jatrabari Thana Awami League president Kazi Monirul Islam Monu arrested in a murder case over the killing of a youth during July uprising in 2024.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order after separate applications filed by the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Emadul Karim of Jatrabari Police Station.
According to the prosecution, preliminary investigation found evidences linking Iqbal Bahar to the murder. He is already in jail in another murder case filed with Jatrabari Police Station.
Investigators also said that, acting on the instructions and with the backing of Munna and Monu, a man identified as Md Yasin Uddin alias “Shooter Liton” opened fire on victim Iman Gazi, causing his death. Munna and Monu are also currently in jail in separate murder cases.
According to the case statement, Iman Gazi was shot dead in Jatrabari area of the capital city of Dhaka during the anti-discrimination student-led movement on August 5, 2024. His brother, Anwar Hossain, filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station on August 28, 2024.
