National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam on Tuesday said the July Uprising was fought to dismantle fascism and establish a state based on good governance"not to replace one group of rulers with another accused of plunder.

Speaking at a discussion following the party's 'July Padajatra' programme at Taltala Chattar in Sakhipur Upazila of Tangail, Nahid warned that any attempt to exploit power for personal gain would betray the sacrifices of those killed during the movement.

"The students shed their blood in 2024 to end fascism and build a state founded on justice and good governance," he said.
