National Citizen Party (NCP) has permanently expelled Ataullah Shah, joint member secretary of its Gazipur Metropolitan Convening Committee, following his arrest on allegations of providing extremist training under the guise of martial arts instruction.

The decision was announced in a notice signed by party Office Cell member Sadia Farzana Dina on Tuesday.
According to the notice, Ataullah was expelled after "serious allegations" surfaced regarding his involvement in activities contrary to the party's policies and ideals.

"In accordance with the party constitution and applicable organisational provisions, he has been permanently expelled from all organisational responsibilities and primary membership, including the post of joint member secretary of the NCP Gazipur Metropolitan Convening Committee," the notice said.

Ataullah was among six people arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday from the Balur Math area of Konapara in Jatrabari.

According to police, the arrests were made based on intelligence information. The DMP alleged that the group had been providing training to youths for extremist activities while presenting the programme as martial arts instruction.
