Continuous heavy rainfall has caused widespread waterlogging in several parts of Chattogram city, inundating major roads and disrupting daily life.

Agrabad, Chawkbazar, Bakalia, Chandgaon, Patenga and Kuaish areas were among the worst affected, with floodwaters entering homes and businesses.

Following hours of intense rainfall, low-lying areas quickly submerged on Tuesday. Water levels reached knee height in many locations and exceeded that level in some areas, significantly disrupting vehicular movement and resulting in long traffic congestion on key roads across the city.

Residents of Agrabad, Chawkbazar, Bakalia, Kazir Hat, Halishahar, Chandgaon, Sunnia Madrasa Road, Akmal Ali Road, Patenga, and Kuaish experienced the greatest sufferings. Several houses awent under water and commercial establishments, damaging household belongings and business merchandise.

Several narrow streets and alleys in Chawkbazar also went underwater, making movement difficult for pedestrians.

Office commuters faced the most severe disruption as traffic gridlock developed at multiple intersections from early morning. Many people were seen rolling up their trousers, carrying their shoes by hand, and wading through floodwater to reach their destinations. The shortage of public transport and CNG-powered autorickshaws further compounded the situation, preventing many employees from reaching their workplaces on time.

Saiful Islam, a resident of Chandgaon, said he remained stranded on the road for hours after leaving home for work.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast further rainfall in the Chattogram region as the active monsoon continues to influence the area. Authorities have warned that waterlogging in low-lying areas could worsen if the rain persists.
