The Bangladesh Army on Friday escorted another 311 stranded tourists out of Sajek Valley as rescue efforts continued following heavy rainfall, landslides and disrupted road communication.
The information was confirmed by the Baghaihat Zone at around 9:00am.
A total of 561 tourists had been stranded in the popular hill resort due to continuous rain and landslides. On Thursday, the Army safely escorted 150 tourists out of Sajek in the first phase.
According to the Baghaihat Zone, the second convoy carrying 311 tourists left for Khagrachhari under Army escort on Friday morning. The remaining around 100 tourists will be evacuated in phases.
The Rangamati district administration on Tuesday suspended all tourism activities in Sajek until further notice, citing the risk of landslides, road disruptions and concerns over public safety. As the restriction came into effect before many visitors could leave, hundreds of tourists remained stranded, prompting the Army to launch the ongoing evacuation operation.
