Islami Andolan’s (IA) Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer, Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim on Friday said July Uprising was not only aimed at removing fascism but was also resisting who were conspiring to sell the nation.
While addressing a rally prior to a protest procession at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital, he said people sacrificed their lives, shed blood, and suffered permanent injuries to protect the country and ensure a peaceful future. According to him, 70 per cent voters gave the nod to the implementation of July Charter. “And BNP had also pledged to implement it if elected to power,” he pointed out.
The rally organised by its Dhaka North and South units demanded the functioning of July Charter. Rally organisers politically protested what the party described as ‘Indian aggression’.
Faizul Karim alleged: Attempts are being made to revive a ‘militancy narrative’ to target Islamist groups, religious scholars, and madrassas, and urged people to remain vigilant against such external conspiracy.
He reiterated ‘violence in the name of religion’ is unacceptable.
Party's Secretary General, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman said July movement was also directed against foreign interference. Referring to remarks allegedly made by the Indian High Commissioner, he said the party had sought an explanation but had yet to receive one.
