Around 400,000 people have been stranded by severe flooding triggered by continuous heavy rainfall and hill runoff in Chattoram district.
To coup up this situation to support the civil administration under the 'In Aid to Civil Power' framework, the Bangladesh Army has been deployed across these seven upazilas.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday night.
According to the ISPR, the deployment followed an emergency request from the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner. Troops from the Bangladesh Army's 10th Infantry Division and 24th Infantry Division have been mobilized to conduct search, rescue, and relief operations in the flood-affected areas.
Relentless rainfall has severely inundated Lohagara, Satkania, Chandanaish, and Banshkhali upazilas. Approximately 400,000 residents in these areas have been left stranded, with many facing acute humanitarian hardship.
Rescue teams from the 10th Infantry Division, alongwith the necessary equipment, have been rapidly deployed to assist affected communities.
Meanwhile, Boalkhali, Hathazari, and Fatikchhari upazilas have also experienced severe flooding due to heavy rain. Personnel from the 24th Infantry Division have been deployed to these areas to carry out emergency rescue and relief operations.
The ISPR said search and rescue efforts are continuing around the clock to ensure the safety of people trapped by the floodwaters. To improve the speed and coordination of relief efforts, the 24th Infantry Division has established three operational camps in the affected areas.
