As football fever grips fans around the world during the FIFA World Cup, OTT platform Bongo has released a thriller that goes beyond the usual Brazil-Argentina fan rivalry. Titled Football Hottogol, the drama explores the darker side of football, highlighting illegal betting, crime and mystery.
Directed by Deepu Hazra, the drama premiered on July 11 on Bongo. The story revolves around Ayan Chowdhury, played by Shyamol Mawla, an unemployed graduate with an extraordinary ability to predict football match results with remarkable accuracy.
As his predictions consistently come true, Ayan launches a Facebook page called "Octopus Bhai," which quickly gains massive popularity. Trusting his forecasts, many people begin placing high-stakes bets. However, the story takes a dramatic turn when Ayan mysteriously disappears, setting off a suspense-filled investigation.
Opposite Shyamol Mawla, Nishat Priom stars as an aspiring sports journalist. While investigating the viral "Octopus Bhai" page for a news report, she befriends Ayan. After his disappearance, she embarks on a mission to uncover the truth and solve the mystery behind his sudden vanishing.
Speaking about the project, director Deepu Hazra said that most World Cup-themed dramas focus on comedy and fan rivalry, but Football Hottogol aims to portray the hidden realities of gambling, fraud and criminal activities associated with football.
"The entire team worked with great dedication to make the story as authentic and engaging as possible," he said.
The cast also features Dolly Zahur, Azam Khan, Mahmudul Islam Mithu and Zainal Jack in pivotal roles.
