The last eight days of June has claimed more than 10,000 lives across continents in Europe. A Europe-based organization EuroMOMO has confirmed this report on Sunday.
The organization stated that these 10,000 deaths were recorded in 27 EU member countries due to heatwave that lasted eight days, starting from June 20 to 28. Nearly 9,000 people were aged 65 or above among the deceased.
According to Reuters, Heatstroke or cardiac and respiratory failure are deemed as the primary cause of deaths.
The EuroMOMO report did not specify the exact number of deaths in each EU member country. However, it mentioned that a large portion of the deceased belonged to France and Belgium.
According to official data, an average of 500 people is dying every week collectively in several EU states due to heat and heat wave-related reasons. This situation has been going on for the last eight weeks.
