Bangladesh women's junior hockey team continued its winning march in the Women's Junior AHF Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Uzbekistan in their second round-robin match in Muscat, Oman, on Monday at night.
After opening their campaign with a resounding 6-0 triumph over Hong Kong, China, the young Tigresses once again showcased their resilience, grinding out a narrow but priceless win to remain on course in the five-team tournament. Unlike their free-scoring performance in the opener, Bangladesh had to dig deep against a disciplined Uzbekistan side before emerging victorious by the slimmest of margins.
Riyasa was named Player of the Match for her outstanding display, playing a pivotal role in Bangladesh's success as the side secured maximum points for the second consecutive fixture.
The official match result confirmed Bangladesh's 1-0 win and Riyasa's individual accolade. However, the goal scorer, timing of the decisive strike and other detailed match statistics had not been officially released at the time of writing.
According to the official tournament schedule, Bangladesh will next face Pakistan on 16 July before concluding the round-robin stage against Kazakhstan on 17 July.
With two victories from two matches, Bangladesh have strengthened their position in the race for a place in the final, keeping their continental aspirations firmly alive in Muscat.
