The government on Tuesday shifted its focus from rescue operations to rehabilitation as floodwaters began receding in several parts of the country following devastating floods and landslides that have affected more than 600,000 people and claimed 54 lives across eight districts.
The decision was announced by Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu at a press conference after an inter-ministerial meeting on flood disaster management, emergency response and coordination held at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room in the capital.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad and Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan also attended the briefing.
