Abu Sayed, Mugdha, Wasim join Bangladesh’s passport history

The Bangladesh government has approved a major redesign of the e-passport booklet, introducing new images and rearranging existing ones to reflect the country’s history, heritage and significant events.

The decision was announced through a notification issued by the Expatriation-4 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday (July 19).

Under the revised design, images related to the 2024 July uprising will be included as watermarks on pages 32 and 33 of the e-passport booklet. The historic movement and sacrifices of young people including Abu Sayed, Mugdha and Wasim will now be represented in the country’s international travel document.

The newly approved design incorporates various national landmarks, historical sites and cultural symbols. Images of the National Martyrs’ Memorial, Shaheed Minar, Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Supreme Court, Kantajew Temple, Lalbagh Fort, Panam City and Curzon Hall will feature on different pages of the passport.

The revised booklet will also include natural heritage symbols such as Cox’s Bazar sea beach with its jhau forest, the Sundarbans, Tanguar Haor and Nilgiri. National symbols including the water lily, doel bird, hilsa fish and jackfruit have also been included, along with renowned artist Zainul Abedin’s iconic painting “Struggle”.

According to the notification, the validity of the passport for all countries except Israel will remain unchanged on the data page. The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Department of Immigration and Passports to take necessary steps for the swift implementation of the new design.
