Warning signal no. 1 hoisted at river ports in 17 districts amid thunderstorm threat

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised river ports in 17 districts to hoist warning signal No. 1 as thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected to sweep across parts of the country on Monday.

According to a weather warning issued for inland river ports, valid from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm, rain or thunderstorms with temporary gusty or squally winds reaching speeds of 45�"60 km/h may affect Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet. River ports in these areas have been advised to display warning signal No. 1.

The Met Office also forecast rain or thundershowers in various parts of the country, including Dhaka, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely at isolated places. Day and night temperatures may fall slightly across the country.

For Dhaka and adjoining areas, the six-hour forecast from 7:00 am predicts a partly to mostly cloudy sky with rain or thundershowers. South or southeasterly winds are expected to blow at speeds of 10�"15 km/h, while daytime temperatures may decrease slightly.

The BMD said Dhaka recorded a temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius at 6:00 am on Monday, with relative humidity at 89 percent. The capital registered 5 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. The city’s highest temperature on Sunday was 32.4 degrees Celsius, while the lowest recorded on Monday was 26.4 degrees Celsius.

In its nationwide forecast issued on Sunday evening, the Met Office said light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, are likely in most areas of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at many places across Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated locations, with temperatures likely to decline slightly during both the day and night.
