President’s resignation preparations completed: Bangabhaban

Preparations for President Md. Shahabuddin’s resignation have been completed, according to sources at Bangabhaban, the president’s official residence and office.

The sources confirmed on Friday afternoon that all arrangements are in place and the resignation letter will be submitted once the Speaker gives time.

Speculation about the president’s resignation has been circulating on social media in recent days, with several leading newspapers also reporting that he was set to step down. Bangabhaban sources have now confirmed that preparations for the resignation are complete.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed returned to the country on Friday after cutting short his visit to Thailand amid the reports. Speaking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he said he was unaware of the president’s resignation.

Responding to questions, the speaker said that if the president resigns, the resignation would be submitted to the Speaker. He added that Parliament would elect a new president within 90 days. Until then, the Speaker would temporarily perform the president’s duties in accordance with the Constitution.
