12 BNP leaders given top administrative posts on contract basis

Government has appointed 12 leader of BNP to top positions in various important state agencies, boards and corporations on a contractual basis.

Except for the post of Additional Secretary at the Election Commission Secretariat, the remaining 11 appointments have been made at the Grade-2 rank for a period of one year.

This was disclosed in 12 separate notifications issued on Thursday, July 23. The notices were signed by Md Golam Rabbani, Deputy Secretary of the Contract and Foreign Employment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration.

Party sources revealed that all the appointees are office-bearers of BNP. Among these leaders who played active roles in various political movements, several were nomination seekers in the 12th National Parliamentary Election. They later withdrew their nomination papers at the request of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

According to the notifications, Md Salahuddin Sarkar has been appointed Director General of the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation.

Among others, Mohammad Rashedul Huq has been appointed Managing Director of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL), Mohammad Mossaddek Hossain Bulbul made Chairman of Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation, ATM Abdul Bari Danny appointed Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), and Md Kamruzzaman (Dulal) named Executive Secretary of the Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council.

Furthermore, Abdul Khaleq has been appointed Chairman of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation, Md Shamsuzzaman (Suruj) Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation, Kazi Rawnakul Islam (Tipu) Managing Director of Bangladesh Climate Change Trust, Md Zakir Siddique Chairman of Bangladesh Handloom Board, Benazir Ahmed Chairman of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), and Md Mamun Hasan Chairman of Bangladesh Jute Corporation.

Meanwhile, Md Samsul Alam has been contractually appointed as Additional Secretary to the Election Commission Secretariat for one year.

The notifications stated that the appointees must sever all ties with any other profession, business, or government, semi-government, and private organizations or associations prior to joining. Their contractual appointments will take effect for one year from the date of joining.
