Cape Verde Goalkeeper Vozinha Joins Colo Colo

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is set to join Chilean giants Colo Colo after reaching an agreement with the club following his impressive World Cup campaign.

Colo Colo president Anibal Mosa confirmed on Friday that the 40-year-old free agent will travel to Chile in the coming days. He will undergo a medical before completing the move and being officially presented at the Estadio Monumental.

“Vozinha will be a Colo Colo player. In the coming days he will travel to Chile, undergo the usual medical examinations and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental,” Mosa told reporters.

The Vozinha Colo Colo deal rewards one of the tournament’s biggest surprise performers. The experienced goalkeeper entered the World Cup as a free agent after leaving Portuguese second-tier club Chaves before the competition.

However, he quickly became one of the standout players in the tournament.

Vozinha inspired World Cup debutants Cape Verde to a goalless draw against eventual champions Spain during the group stage. He also produced a series of outstanding saves as Argentina needed extra time to eliminate the African side in the round of 32.

Those performances earned the veteran a place in FIFA’s fan-selected World Cup Dream Team.

Meanwhile, Mosa said Vozinha deserved the opportunity after his displays on football’s biggest stage. He also admitted the signing would bring commercial value to the Chilean club.

Although the transfer is yet to be completed, Colo Colo have already teased supporters. The club posted an image on social media showing what appeared to be the goalkeeper’s trademark curly hair, fuelling excitement ahead of his arrival.

If the medical goes as planned, Vozinha Colo Colo will become one of the most remarkable transfers of the window, with the veteran hoping to build on the momentum created by his memorable World Cup campaign.
