A pedestrian was killed and four others were seriously injured in a road accident in Sonakhali area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Alam, 51, a mason. He was a resident of Barakpur village in Sonakhali, Sonargaon.
According to police and local sources, the truck suddenly went out of the driver's control while travelling along the highway and struck pedestrian Alam and the vehicle then rammed into an autorickshaw, leaving its four passengers injured.
Alam died at the scene, while local residents rushed to rescue the four passengers trapped inside the damaged autorickshaw. They were taken to Al Baraka Hospital with serious injuries.
Highway police SI Awlad Hossain said the truck involved in the crash has been seized, but the driver fled the scene.
The body has been sent to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue.
