Three members of the same family were killed after being hit by a lorry in Malaysia

Three members including two daughters of the same family were killed after being hit by lorry belonging to the immigration department in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The deceased include a 53-year-old man and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12.
The accident occurred around 1:00 AM on Tuesday (August 18) near a traffic signal at Maju Junction on Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.

Assistant Commissioner Zamzuri Mohammad Isa, head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said,  “the lorry was travelling from the Kuala Lumpur immigration Office to the Chow Kit area. It was heading there to transport people detained following an operation against illegal immigrants in the area.”
the traffic light for the lorry’s lane was red when it crossed the intersection.

However, the lorry’s beacon lights and siren were switched on. At the same time, a Proton Saga driven by a 50-year-old man was crossing the intersection after receiving a green signal. As the driver was unable to avoid the approaching lorry in time, the two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection.

Following the collision, the lorry driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and hit four pedestrians. All four were members of the same family.
Three members of the family died at the Spot. The wife and mother of the deceased, a 55-year-old woman, was seriously injured. She was later admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

Traffic police officer Mohammad Zamzuri said, “none of the drivers of the three vehicles involved in the accident were injured. However, the lorry driver and the Proton Saga driver were detained for investigation.”

Breathalyser tests for alcohol and preliminary drug tests on both drivers returned negative results. Police visited the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. They also collected CCTV footage, identified witnesses and seized the vehicles involved for examination. He added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
