Global Peace, Shared Future: China’s New Mission

Today, changes unseen in a century are accelerating across the globe, and the international landscape is undergoing profound and complex transformation. The world has once again arrived at a new crossroads. China firmly upholds the authority and status of the United Nations, resolutely defends international fairness and justice, and actively advances the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative. Committed to building a community with a shared future for humanity, China will always be a force for world peace, stability, and progress. The Chinese armed forces faithfully act on this vision, actively fulfilling the international obligations befitting the military of a major country and participating extensively in global security governance, thereby contributing their strength to safeguarding world peace.

Since the Chinese military first took part in United Nations peacekeeping operations in 1990, it has conducted 26 missions and dispatched over 50,000 peacekeepers to more than 20 countries and regions. Seventeen Chinese peacekeepers have sacrificed their precious lives for the cause of peace. As the largest troop contributor to UN peacekeeping among the permanent members of the UN Security Council and the second-largest financial contributor to the peacekeeping budget, China maintains a standby force of 8,000 peacekeeping personnel. Currently, more than 1,600 Chinese peacekeepers are carrying out missions in countries and regions including Lebanon, South Sudan, and Abyei. The Chinese military will faithfully honor its solemn commitments, diligently fulfill its peacekeeping mandates, and contribute even more Chinese strength to safeguarding world peace.

In accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has been conducting escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and waters off the coast of Somalia since 2008. As of June 2026, a total of 48 escort task groups, comprising over 150 warships and more than 36,000 military personnel, have been dispatched. These taskforces have safely escorted over 1,700 batches of Chinese and foreign vessels, totaling more than 7,400 ships. They have also rescued or provided shelter to nearly 100 vessels of all types, over half of which were foreign. Upholding the vision of a maritime community with a shared future, the PLA Navy contributes actively to safeguarding maritime security and world peace.

Peace is the shared aspiration of people across the globe, and development is an eternal theme of humanity. Amid profound global changes unseen in a century, all nations should stick together, share weal and woe, live in harmony, and engage in mutually beneficial cooperation. As a staunch defender of world peace and security, the Chinese military actively participates in arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation, strengthens bilateral and multilateral military cooperation, builds constructive relations with other militaries, and expands its provision of public security goods. China's military is willing to work with the armed forces of other countries to pursue, safeguard, and share peace. It is our expectation that all countries will jointly write a new chapter in dispelling the shadow of war and building a world of lasting peace.

The Chinese armed forces have the resolve, confidence, and capability to overcome all threats and challenges, and they are willing to work with the armed forces of all countries to safeguard world peace.
