Protesters besiege Jamaat MP’s residence in Jashore 

The unrest unfolded in the Neelganj Supari Bagan area, where angry guardians and local residents surrounded the MP’s residence, pelted it with bricks, smashed window panes and attempted to force open the main gate. The standoff continued for nearly three hours before police dispersed the crowd and deployed additional personnel to secure the area.

The protest stemmed from allegations that Mehezabien Jannat Ananya, the MP’s daughter, assaulted and intimidated students of Al Madrasatul Shariah, located opposite the family’s residence, on Monday afternoon. Police mediated a meeting between representatives of the madrasa and the MP’s family later that day, and the matter was reportedly settled.

However, protesters alleged that the dispute reignited on Tuesday morning when Ananya again confronted madrasa students and their guardians. During the altercation, a guardian, identified as Rexana Khatun, was allegedly struck on the head with a padlock, triggering fresh outrage and drawing hundreds of residents to the MP's house.

Kabir Hossain, Principal of Al Madrasatul Shariah, claimed that the MP's daughter had previously assaulted madrasa children on multiple occasions. He alleged that despite Monday's settlement, the family again confronted children while they were playing, and that Ananya threw a padlock that injured a guardian. Jamaat MP Golam Rasul did not respond to the allegations.

His wife, Sharmin Dina, rejected the accusations, saying their daughter suffers from mental health problems. She alleged that children frequently gather around the madrasa premises, causing disturbances, and claimed the confrontation began after her daughter protested against the noise.

She further alleged that protesters vandalised their residence and that the family was being targeted with false accusations.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masum Khan said law enforcers brought the situation under control after dispersing the protesters and urged both sides to pursue legal remedies.

"The dispute involved the MP's daughter and the madrasa's students and guardians. We have asked the complainants to submit written complaints. Necessary legal action will be taken after a proper investigation," the OC said.  Police said the situation remains under control, while the conflicting allegations are being investigated.
