Will surrender next week if not arrested in Shapla Chattar case: Latif Siddiqui

Former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui has said he will surrender before the International Crimes Tribunal on August 1 or 2 if police do not arrest him in a case over alleged killings and crimes against humanity during the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel.

Siddiqui made the remarks after appearing before a Dhaka court on Wednesday in an anti-terrorism case filed with Shahbagh Police Station.

The court was scheduled to receive the investigation report in the case, but police failed to submit it. Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana set September 7 for the next report submission.

Siddiqui said an arrest warrant had been issued against him in the Shapla Chattar case. “If police do not arrest me, I will surrender before the tribunal on Sunday or Monday,” he told reporters.
