Seven alleged Chhatra League activists arrested in Cox’s Bazar

Police arrested seven alleged activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and seized a microbus in Cox’s Bazar's Ukhiya on Saturday after they allegedly attempted to organize a rally in support of the banned Awami League, officials said.
The arrests were made in the morning at Morichya Bazar in Ukhiya Upazila when police conducted an operation following reports that the group was preparing to hold a procession.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Mizanur Rahman, 26, Farhad Hossain, 18, Sazzadur Rahman, 19, Saiful Islam, 21, Mohammad Imrul, 19, Md. Sohel, 19, and microbus driver Abul Khair, 30.
Confirming the arrests, Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Atikur Rahman Majumder said the seven were detained on allegations of preparing to stage a rally in favour of the banned Awami League. He said they were later produced before a court for further legal proceedings.
Police also seized a microbus from the scene during the operation.
According to police sources, the seven have been shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on July 26 over allegations of holding a secret meeting and conspiring to carry out acts of sabotage involving leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, Bangladesh Chhatra League and their affiliated organisations in Ukhiya.
The case, filed by Sub-Inspector Palash Barua of Ukhiya Police Station, names 114 leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League as accused, along with 50 to 60 unidentified individuals.
According to the first information report (FIR), police received information on July 25 that leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated bodies were holding a secret meeting at the residence of former Ukhiya Upazila Chhatra League general secretary Ali Ahmed in Nolbunia under Palongkhali Union.
Police alleged that those attending the meeting were planning acts of sabotage, including blocking highways with tree logs and burning tyres to create disorder and disrupt public security. Acting on the information, multiple police patrol teams conducted a raid. Two suspects were detained during the operation, while others fled the scene, according to the FIR.
The seven detained on Saturday were later shown arrested in connection with the same case.
