NILPHAMARI, Aug 1: A new one-storey academic building with a four-storey foundation was inaugurated at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman College in Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari on Friday.
The building was inaugurated by Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, Convener of the Engineers Association of Bangladesh (AB) and former MP for Nilphamari-1, along with reserved-seat lawmaker Rehana Akter Ranu at a ceremony held on the college campus.
Speaking at a discussion following the inauguration, speakers said the college had been deprived of necessary development and government support for nearly 17 years after being named after former President Ziaur Rahman.
They said the lack of infrastructure had created classroom shortages and affected the overall learning environment, causing difficulties for both students and teachers.
The newly constructed academic building is expected to significantly ease the shortage of classrooms while providing a more modern and conducive environment for teaching and learning, they said.
The speakers also stressed the need to continue development initiatives to improve the institution's overall facilities and academic standards.
The discussion was chaired by the college's principal, Monowar Hossain.
Among others, Executive Engineer of the Education Engineering Department in Nilphamari Md Hazerul Islam and Tamanna Yasmin, wife of Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, also addressed the programme.
Teachers, students, guardians, local dignitaries and residents attended the event.
