Khulna to observe July Uprising Day with extensive programmes

KHULNA, Aug 1: The Khulna District Administration has undertaken a series of programmes to observe July Mass Uprising Day-2026 with due dignity in line with the national observance schedule, according to a handout issued by Khulna PID.

The Day’s programmes will begin at 9 am on August 5 with the placing of wreaths at the July Martyrs’ Memorial at Shibbari Mor. A voluntary blood donation programme will follow at 9:30 am, while participants will visit the grave of martyr Sakib Rayhan at 10 am.

Rare photographs and documentaries depicting the July movement will be exhibited at Shibbari Mor, Shaheed Hadis Park, Moylapota Mor, Joragate, Gollamari near Khulna University, Rupsha Mor, Natun Rasta and other important locations, including Khulna City Corporation mini poles, at convenient times throughout the day.

Special prayers will be offered after Zuhr prayers in mosques, while temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship will hold prayers seeking eternal peace for the martyrs.

A reception for families of the July martyrs and participants of the uprising, followed by a discussion on the significance of the day, will be held at 11am at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

A friendly football match will take place at 4pm at the Khulna District Stadium, while films and documentaries provided by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will be screened at 5pm at Shaheed Hadis Park and Shibbari Mor.

Government, private and autonomous museums across the district will remain open to the public free of charge throughout the day.

Special meals will be arranged at government hospitals, prisons, children’s homes, rehabilitation centres, disability welfare centres, day-care facilities, child development centres and shelters for homeless people.

The city’s major roads and traffic islands will be decorated with the national flag, banners, festoons and colourful pennants. Educational institutions will organise essay, recitation and drawing competitions, along with discussion meetings.
