Glasgow Commonwealth Games conclude, baton passed to India for 2030

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games came to a close on Sunday with a colourful closing ceremony, as the King’s Baton was officially handed over to India, host of the 2030 Games in Ahmedabad.

Held at Glasgow’s Hydro Arena, the 90-minute ceremony featured Scottish music, dance and cultural performances alongside a showcase of Indian traditions, symbolising the transition to the next host nation.

Athletes, volunteers and officials joined the celebrations, highlighting the Games’ themes of friendship, unity and sportsmanship after 11 days of competition.

The ceremony also celebrated memorable moments from the Games, including Australia’s dominance in the medal table, India’s success in boxing, Nigeria’s world record performances and several emotional tributes to athletes.

Organisers hailed Glasgow 2026 as a successful edition, noting that the Games were delivered within a shortened preparation period while demonstrating that a major international sporting event can be staged on a relatively modest budget.

Attention now turns to Ahmedabad, which will host the centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030.
