LAXMIPUR, Aug 4: On the occasion of the World Breastfeeding Week-2026, rallies, discussion meetings and week-long programmes organised by District Civil Surgeon’s Office have been inaugurated in the district on Sunday with the theme “Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life: strengthen what works”.
A colourful rally was brought out from the premises of the Civil Surgeon's office in the morning that paraded through the main roads of the town and ended at the Civil Surgeon's office. Later, Civil Surgeon (Acting) Dr Baharul Alam presided over the discussion meeting. Besides, the Medical Officer of the civil surgeon's office Dr Nahid Raihan was present.
The speakers said, “There is no alternative to mother's milk in improving the health of the child, ensuring nutrition and building immunity.” They emphasised breastfeeding within one hour of birth and exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. At the same time, it was recommended to continue breastfeeding after six months with appropriate complementary foods for two years or more. At the end of the event, CS (Acting) Dr Baharul Alam inaugurated various awareness activities in the district on the occasion of the Week.
