State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said elections to all five levels of local government will be held within the current fiscal year.
He made the remarks while visiting the waste management secondary transfer station of Sylhet City Corporation in Parairch, Sylhet, on Thursday afternoon.
The state minister said the government aims to complete elections at all five levels within the current fiscal year. After August, the Local Government Division, Finance Department and Election Commission will jointly discuss and decide which level of local government elections will be held first.
Commenting on former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Shahe Alam said she has no chance of returning home directly at this time.
“The verdict has already been passed against her. If she returns home, she will be arrested. She will have to go to jail and the verdict will be implemented,” he said.
The state minister said Sylhet is cleaner than other cities and praised the Sylhet City Corporation for its canal digging and dengue prevention projects.
Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Sylhet-3 MP MA Malek, City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Rezai Rafin Sarkar and senior officials were present during the inspection.
