Gold jewellery prices have surged again in the domestic market, with the price of high-quality 22-carat gold rising by Tk 9,856 per bhori (11.664 grams). Including VAT, the price of a bhori of top-tier gold jewellery has now been set at Tk 232,930.
The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) said the revision was made following an increase in the price of pure gold (tejabi gold) in the local market. The new rates took effect at 10:00 am on Thursday (August 6).
The decision was taken at a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Thursday. A press release signed by the committee's chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, confirmed the adjustment.
Earlier, on July 31, BAJUS reduced the price of high-quality gold by Tk 2,216 per bhori. However, following two subsequent price hikes, the cumulative increase in the price of top-quality gold now stands at Tk 12,072 per bhori.
Under the latest adjustment (inclusive of VAT), the price of 22-carat gold increased by Tk 9,856 to Tk 232,930 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold rose by Tk 9,448 to Tk 222,491 per bhori, while 18-carat gold increased by Tk 8,106 to Tk 191,056 per bhori. The price of traditional-method gold was raised by Tk 6,590 to Tk 156,064 per bhori.
Before the latest revision, gold was traded at rates that came into effect at 10:00 am on July 31 and remained valid until 9:59 am on Thursday. Under those rates (inclusive of VAT), 22-carat gold was priced at Tk 223,074 per bhori, 21-carat gold at Tk 213,043 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 182,950 per bhori, and traditional-method gold at Tk 149,474 per bhori.
Alongside gold, BAJUS also raised silver jewellery prices (inclusive of VAT). The price of 22-carat silver increased by Tk 292 to Tk 4,899 per bhori, while 21-carat silver rose by the same amount to Tk 4,666 per bhori. The price of 18-carat silver increased by Tk 233 to Tk 4,024 per bhori, and traditional-method silver went up by Tk 175 to Tk 3,033 per bhori.
