Five coaches, including the power car, of the Jamalpur Commuter train derailed in Gafargaon, Mymensingh, on Friday morning, disrupting train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.
The accident occurred around 9am near the Shibganj Road level crossing adjacent to Gafargaon Railway Station.
Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aktar Hossain confirmed the incident, saying the Dhaka-bound Jamalpur Commuter train had departed from Jamalpur and derailed shortly before entering Gafargaon Railway Station.
Five coaches, including a power car at the front of the train, went off the tracks.
He said train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route have been temporarily suspended following the accident. The process of sending a relief train to recover the derailed coaches is underway.
Bangladesh Railway Director (Public Relations) Anisur Rahman said a relief train had been called following the accident.
He said train services from Dhaka to Mymensingh and Mymensingh to Dhaka have been temporarily suspended. However, efforts are underway to operate trains via an alternative route.
